Meet Our Founders

The origins of Care Outreach date back to the early 1990’s when founders Bill and Melissa Close were in itinerant ministry to churches and communities throughout Australia. With a break in their schedule, they travelled to a region that was suffering from drought to offer practical assistance and ministry. It was during this trip that they were struck by the disadvantages faced by Bush people and the number of suicides among farm families.

Care Outreach began as the Bill and Melissa found ways to support farming families in southern Queensland and New South Wales as far south as Orange. Twenty-five years later, Care Outreach is what it is today readying thousands of people and farms throughout Queensland and New South Wales.

WHAT WE DO

For many Rural and Remote Australians, hope is scarce, depression is a part of everyday life and suicide is not uncommon. Since the early 1990’s Care Outreach has expanded to the extent that today there are volunteer teams undertaking year round visits, giving hands-on assistance and facilitating Community Events. Just some of the many things we assit families with are:

  • Regular face to face visitation and ministry
  • Food hampers, toiletries, linen and toys
  • ‘Christmas for the Bush’ (annual event)
  • Property Support (e.g. assist with fencing, mustering, livestock)
  • Domestic Help (e.g. aid with housework, child care)
  • Facilitation of Community Events
  • Work Party Teams
ONGOING DROUGHT APPEAL

Care Outreach offers a helping hand to Queensland & NSW farmers who are suffering from the effects of severe drought. As the drought continues farmers continue to struggle financially with the increased costs of ensuring water and feed is available to keep their stock alive.

CHRISTMAS FOR THE BUSH

Christmas for the Bush is the major annual event of Care Outreach and as part of this we provide gifts, hampers and finacial assistance to families to support them at this often emotionally hard time of year.

Due to the size of this campaign, we collect year round for CFTB.
